Milk

What Kind of Milk Do You Prefer?

During our nutrition lessons, we read a book about milk. We learned where milk comes from, how it is tested, and how it gets packaged. We ended our lesson by doing our own taste testing.

The students were given a sample of 2% white milk and chocolate milk.

They graphed the one they like the best. Can you guess what the results were?

Our one friend who liked white milk better!

Sorting

Sorting

We used items that the students brought from home for a sorting activity.

The students were given the instructions to sort 'things with holes' and 'things without holes'. They worked very hard and we ended up with a large supply of things we needed for an extention activity.

We took the 'things with holes' and made beautiful art by stringing them on wire. What great math and fine motor practice!

Bubble Wrap Fun

Bubble Wrap Fun!

Mrs. Bombardier brought in a box of bubble wrap and thought it would be fun if the students could run across it with their shoes off.

They heard wonderful popping sounds and were able to distinguish between the popping sound of a small bubble and a large bubble. Some walked across slowly, some ran, and some even hopped!

We had so much fun using our senses to guide us. The students could see the process, they could hear it, and they could feel it with their feet!

Tissue Paper Easter Eggs

Tissue Paper Easter Eggs

Easter rolled around and we decided to decorate our eggs using water and tissue paper.

The students started by spraying a square of tissue paper with water. They added tissue paper to the paper towel and sprayed some more water. The egg was placed on top of the tissue paper, and another layer of tissue paper was added to the top of the egg. Finally, the last few sprays of water. The egg was wrapped with the paper towel and left for a few hours to dry.

The studens inwrapped the egg and peeled off the tissue paper....

...and voila! The egg had been 'magically' dyed!

"The Hair Cut"

We noticed that the students were starting to lose interest in our "Baby Day Care". We watched for things that they were interested in, and decided to turn this area into a hair salon! With the help of our parents, we have collected a great assortment of products and materials for our hair salon.

The students brainstormed some possible names for the hair salon. Then they voted for the name they liked the best. After seeing the results, the students came to the conclusion that the most students liked "The Hair Cut", and that's what our hair salon was named! You can come in and get your hair washed, dyed, coloured, straightened, curled, or cut. You can even get extensions!

If you want to visit "The Hair Cut", the first step is to call the receptionist and make an appointment.

When you visit "The Hair Cut", you pick the style/colour of hair that you want.

Then our professional hair stylists give you the look you came in for!

Don't forget to pay on your way out!

Painting!

We have been trying so many new things in our classroom. Here are a few pictures of what we have been up to!

We painted with feather to make some beautiful designs. We made words as well! What a great way to practice our fine motor skills!

Then we tried painting with different sizes of cups.....

....and then using tennis balls!

The kids decided that it would be more fun to paint with tennis balls outside. So that's what we did!

The students heard special sounds and made fantastic observations as the tennis ball and paint hit the paper from different heights and using different methods (eg. dropping the ball versus bouncing the ball hard).
Some even rolled the ball across the page and made wonderful prints!

Welcome to our kindergarten blog! Here you will find information about our day and all of the wonderful activities that we engage in. We are a full day kindergarten class that believes in the importance of a play based learning environment where our students are given the opportunity to explore, experiment, and enjoy their learning every day!
