Silly Sentences

We made 4 dice and coloured each of them a different colour. There were words written on all sides. The students had to roll the dice to find out which word they had to write, and under which column (depending on the colour of the die). They came up with some very silly sentences.

Writing the word on the red die under the red column to complete her sentences.

Sounding out the letters to figure out the word.

The Outdoor Classroom

We took our learning outside today and created an outdoor classroom. The students were given an opportunity to show their creativity by painting with sidewalk chalk. We simply crushed up some chalk and added water to create 'paint'. The students also enjoyed blowing some homemade bubbles that we made using water, dish soap and corn syrup.

Reaching up high to try and catch the bubbles.

"These bubbles look like tadpole eggs." -Ryan

Smile!! The girls used all of the 'paint' colours to create a beautiful picture.

Scrabble Math

We combined literacy and math to make this fun game for the students. Their first job was to match the uppercase and lowercase letters to spell a 2 letter word. Then they had to look at the number on each letter and add up how many points that word equaled.

Using our fingers to add up the numbers.

Trying to match uppercase and lowercase letters.

Milk

What Kind of Milk Do You Prefer?

During our nutrition lessons, we read a book about milk. We learned where milk comes from, how it is tested, and how it gets packaged. We ended our lesson by doing our own taste testing.

The students were given a sample of 2% white milk and chocolate milk.

They graphed the one they like the best. Can you guess what the results were?

Our one friend who liked white milk better!

Sorting

Sorting

We used items that the students brought from home for a sorting activity.

The students were given the instructions to sort 'things with holes' and 'things without holes'. They worked very hard and we ended up with a large supply of things we needed for an extention activity.

We took the 'things with holes' and made beautiful art by stringing them on wire. What great math and fine motor practice!

Bubble Wrap Fun

Bubble Wrap Fun!

Mrs. Bombardier brought in a box of bubble wrap and thought it would be fun if the students could run across it with their shoes off.

They heard wonderful popping sounds and were able to distinguish between the popping sound of a small bubble and a large bubble. Some walked across slowly, some ran, and some even hopped!

We had so much fun using our senses to guide us. The students could see the process, they could hear it, and they could feel it with their feet!

Tissue Paper Easter Eggs

Tissue Paper Easter Eggs

Easter rolled around and we decided to decorate our eggs using water and tissue paper.

The students started by spraying a square of tissue paper with water. They added tissue paper to the paper towel and sprayed some more water. The egg was placed on top of the tissue paper, and another layer of tissue paper was added to the top of the egg. Finally, the last few sprays of water. The egg was wrapped with the paper towel and left for a few hours to dry.

The studens inwrapped the egg and peeled off the tissue paper....

...and voila! The egg had been 'magically' dyed!
